Computer Literacy Essay Example for Free
PC Literacy Essay Thou will not vandalize Web pages. Thou will not close down Web locales. Thou will not pine for thy neighborââ¬â¢s MP3s. FBI specialists are spreading another gospel to guardians and educators, trusting theyââ¬â¢ll better instruct adolescents that vandalism in the internet can be financially exorbitant and similarly as criminal as letter drop slamming and spray painting showering. The Justice Department and the Information Technology Association of America, an exchange gathering, has propelled the Cybercitizen Partnership to urge teachers and guardians to converse with kids in manners that liken PC violations with antiquated bad behavior. The incipient exertion incorporates a progression of courses around the nation for educators, homeroom materials and guides and a Web website to assist guardians with conversing with kids. ââ¬Å"In a majority rules system all in all, we canââ¬â¢t have the police everywhere,â⬠said Michael Vatis, executive of the FBIââ¬â¢s National Infrastructure Protection Center, which makes preparations for PC assaults by fear based oppressors, remote specialists and youngster programmers. ââ¬Å"One of the most significant methods of diminishing wrongdoing is attempting to show morals and ethical quality to our children. That equivalent rule needs to apply to the digital world,â⬠he said. Perceiving Virtual Crime Vatis and other FBI operators went to an opening shot course, titled the National Conference on Cyber Ethics, a weekend ago at Marymount University in Arlington, Va. Some portion of the test: Many youngsters despite everything consider PC naughtiness innocuous. An ongoing overview found that 48 percent of understudies in basic and center school donââ¬â¢t consider hacking unlawful. Gail Chmura, a software engineering instructor at Oakton High School in Vienna, Va., makes morals a steady in her educational program, showing kids points, for example, PC law, programming theft and web based cheating. She has contended with understudies who donââ¬â¢t see that taking from a PC with awful security is as off-base asâ stealing from an opened house. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s continually intriguing that they donââ¬â¢t see an association between the two,â⬠Chmura said. ââ¬Å"They just donââ¬â¢t get it.â⬠The FBIââ¬â¢s Vatis tells understudies, ââ¬Å"Do you figure it would be OK to go splash paint your neighborââ¬â¢s house or the supermarket down the road? On a Web website, itââ¬â¢s a similar kind of thing. Itââ¬â¢s somebodyââ¬â¢s customer facing facade or an expansion of themselves.â⬠Chmura attempts comparable messages. For example, she asks a growing writer how he would feel if his music was taken and parted with on the web. ââ¬Å"They do some of the time understand that when theyââ¬â¢re replicating someoneââ¬â¢s item, itââ¬â¢s that 5 penny circle, yet someoneââ¬â¢s work that theyââ¬â¢re copying,â⬠she said. ââ¬Å"I figure they do come to value the way that itââ¬â¢s somebodyââ¬â¢s compensation theyââ¬â¢re stealing.â⬠Driving Home Consequences Vatis refers to a not insignificant rundown of digital wrongdoings executed by minors, remembering assaults for resistance division PCs in 1998 and the February sticking of significant Web destinations, for example, Amazon.com and eBay. He attempts to commute home the results of hacking â⬠including the assets it channels from his inside, as law authorization scrambles to discover who is capable at the beginning of an assault. Specialists ââ¬Å"donââ¬â¢t know whether itââ¬â¢s a fear based oppressor or a remote military,â⬠Vatis said. ââ¬Å"It redirects rare assets of individuals who are attempting to concentrate on wrongdoing, fighting and terrorism.â⬠And youngsters arenââ¬â¢t the main ones needing preparing. Understudies and guardians additionally are as often as possible uncertain about what crosses a moral limit in the internet, where anybody can download pilfered melodic chronicles. ââ¬Å"We had some conversation about the legalities of whether youââ¬â¢re offering something to your companion or copying CDs to sell at your school,â⬠said Deborah Price of Lewisville, N.C., parent of a 14-year-old little girl. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m not genuine sure about Napster morals myself.â⬠Price â⬠whose little girl utilizes Napster, the music-sharing assistance considered a danger to the account business â⬠feels that PC morals are a significant issue. ââ¬Å"I figure it ought to be a piece of the conversation at the school,â⬠Price said. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s just going to get bigger.â⬠References: ABC News W A S H I N G T O N, Oct. 10 FBI Pushes for Cyber Ethics Education By D. Dos and Donts of Dealing With Anger
Dos and Donts of Dealing With Anger Stress Management Management Techniques Print Dos and Donts of Dealing With Anger By Elizabeth Scott, MS twitter Elizabeth Scott, MS, is a wellness coach specializing in stress management and quality of life, and the author of 8 Keys to Stress Management. Learn about our editorial policy Elizabeth Scott, MS Updated on September 18, 2019 Cultura/Matelly/Riser/Getty Images More in Stress Management Management Techniques Physical Techniques Relaxation Time Management Effects on Health Situational Stress Job Stress Household Stress Relationship Stress We all experience anger. Managed in healthy ways, anger can be a positive thingâ"a red flag that somethingâs wrong, a catalyst for change, a good self-motivator. Handled poorly, anger can cause health and relationship problems. For many, especially those who didnât have positive role models for anger management while growing up, dealing with anger can be confusing; itâs hard to know what to do with such a powerful and potentially destructive emotion. Examining your anger and using other anger management techniques can positively impact your health, relationships, and overall happiness. Its simple to do. Here are some proven anger management strategies. Understand Your Anger Dealing with anger is much easier when you know what youâre really angry about. Sometimes people may feel generally irritable because of stress, sleep deprivation, and other factors; more often, thereâs a more specific reason for the anger. Either way, you can become more aware of whatâs behind your anger if you keep an anger journal (a record of what makes you angry throughout the day) for a few weeks, then talk it over with a good friend, or even see a therapist to uncover underlying sources of anger, if you find yourself stumped. Once you are more aware of your sources of anger, you can take steps to deal with it. Using Journaling to Process Your Feelings Express Yourselfâ"Constructively Research shows that writing about anger and expressing it constructively can help reduce negative mood and even pain, particularly if the writing leads to âmeaning-making,â or speculation into the causes of the anger. This research, as well as other research on the benefits of journaling, supports the effectiveness of writing down your feelings and working through them on paper. The written expression of anger allows you to actively do something with your anger rather than just letting it make you feel bad. Take Action Your anger is telling you something. The first part of dealing with anger, as discussed, is examining it and listening to what itâs telling you about your life. The next part involves taking action. Knowing why youâre upset can go a long way, but eliminating your anger triggers and fixing problems that make you angry are equally important. You may not be able to eliminate everything in your life that causes you anger and frustration, but cutting out what you can will go a long way. Find Relief With the 7 Best Online Anger Management Classes Donât Obsess Ruminating on your anger isnât actually helpful. Studies show that, among other things, those who have a tendency to ruminate over situations that have made them angry in their past tend to experience higher blood pressure as a result, putting them at greater risk for organ damage and associated health problems. Trying to solve a problem is a good idea, but stewing in your anger is not. Mindfulness meditation is a proven strategy for minimizing rumination. Donât Over-Talk It Discussing your anger is a tricky thing. Talking about your anger with a trusted friend can be an effective strategy for dealing with angerâ"to a point. It can help you better understand your feelings, brainstorm problem-solving strategies, and strengthen your relationship. However, thereâs also evidence that repeatedly discussing topics that make you angry with your friends can actually make you both feel worse, and increase stress hormones in your blood. If youâre dealing with anger by talking to friends about it, itâs best to talk about a situation only once, exploring solutions as well as your feelings. Most of usâ"especially womenâ"have been involved in conversations that are basically complaint sessions or downward spirals of negative emotion; itâs best to change the subject to a happier topic before it gets that far. If you find yourself wanting to talk a lot about what is making you angry, it might be a good idea to schedule a few sessions with a therapist, who may have some effective ideas on dealing with anger. The Giant Pacific Octopus This paper is about octopus dofleni, which is a bottom-dwelling octopus that lives on coasts of the pacific ocean, from Northern Japan to California. This essay will provide a brief overview of its life, habits and other characteristics of this, intelligent and creative invertebrate and member of the Octopodidae family. The life of the pacific giant may begin at any time of the year. We will write a custom essay sample on The Giant Pacific Octopus or any similar topic only for you Order Now The mating season however tends to peak in the month of December, with most of their eggs being laid in April and May. Octopuses reproduction is sexual and takes place in the somewhat shallow depths of 25 -100m and can last hours. The fertilization process begins with the male octopus, he uses his third right tentacle which has no suckers but a modified structure known as the hectocotylus to pass spermatophore from within his mantle cavity into the the mantle cavity of the female, also known as the oviduct. Male octopuses may mate with more than one female in their lifetime and females tend have a preference of larger males for their mates. While the female lives until the eggs have time to hatch, the male dies only a few months after breeding. Reproduction After being fertilized the female will close herself off in a den here she will lay anywhere between 20,000 and 100,000 eggs over a span of 2-3 weeks. Incubation can take from six to eight months. During this time the female octopus will take to cleaning algae and bacteria off the eggs as well as blowing water at them to keep a steady supply of oxygen. After the eggs hatch, the mother clears an opening in the den for her young to swim up to the surface of the ocean. Life Span After hatching the octopus larva become much like plankton, drifting along the surface of the ocean feeding on particles of dead food from other larger animals. This stage lasts 30-90 days at which point the octopus descends to the bottom of the ocean where it will spend the rest of its life. The Pacific giant may live up to five years without mating. Some have been recorded weighing up to 600 pounds and being 31 feet wide, but the average size is only about 9 feet wide and 100 pounds in weight, still weighing in as the largest species of octopus. The Den of the Octopus When making or finding a den, octopuses are very resourceful, some dig up areas of sea floor to build their own den, but others prefer to live in manmade dens such as sunken ships. Dens are very important to octopuses, they use them for hatching their eggs, feeding, and sometimes uses it to hide from predators such as larger octopuses and seals. In general, octopuses are very mobile, and may occupy multiple dens in their lifetime. Feeding Habits Octopuses feed on everything from smaller octopus, crustaceans, crabs, and shrimp. Octopuses usually hunt at night and capture their prey in many different ways, some use their brute strength and size while others poison prey with their venom. Lifestyle and Characteristics Much like the other aspects of its life, the octopus is very resourceful, in its defense and hunting methods and mechanisms. Some species of octopus are extremely poisonous to man; they can administer their poison in two ways, by either biting with their bird like beaks, or releasing the venom into the surrounding water of its prey. Though octopuses usually use this tool for hunting, and not defense, this poison can attack the nervous, and respiratory systems of man and can cause death within an hour. There is currently no known antivenom for the octopusââ¬â¢s deadly poison. Octopuses also have the ability to change the color of their skin in order to camouflage themselves. This is done through the use of chromatophore cells in the skin. Chromatophore cells are comprised of three sacks containing different colors. The octopus can adjust these colors to match the color of their background. The normal color of the octopus is brown, but it is also seen in other colors correlating with their emotions, such as red for anger and white for fear. The skin of the octopus is generally very soft, the only part that is not is the beak or the head of the octopus, this allows octopuses to fit through holes no larger than the beak its self. All octopuses have the ability to shoot out a jet of purple or blackish ink like fluid from under their eyes, in order to perform a disappearing act when they feel threatened. The octopus can shoot out several blotches of this fluid before the fluid sac is emptied. This trick is not always an option, the ink is actually toxic to the octopus, and if shot in a confined area, the octopus will become sick or even die. Octopuses have fairly good eyes, in fact they are comparable to ours in clarity. The eyes of the octopus differ from ours, in the aspect that they focus by moving in, and out while the human eye works by changing the shape and size of the lens itself. The octopus also posseses the most advanced brain of all invertebrates, with both short, and long term memories. This allows the octopus to learn in much the same way as humans, through trial and error. When an octopus learns a lesson it remembers and puts its knowledge to use in the future. The octopus has eight arms, with 250 suckers on each arm for a total of 2000 suckers on their body. These suckers are very sensitive to touch, in fact, the octopus can differentiate between different objects just as well with their suckers as they can with their eyes. Some species have particular suckers that are larger than the rest This is to aid in reproduction. Although octopuses often lose arms to predators, it is of no consequence as the arm will grow back in a short time. The Octopus Dolfeni and Man The pacific giant is the most common commercial species of octopus and is caught by fisheries from north Japan to Washington state. The octopuses are caught in large sometimes clay pots and raised to the surface. The octopuses are used for bait and for consumption by humans. Although these octopuses are caught in nearly all of their habitats, they are not endangered. The ocean is where life began, and is a far more competitive, and harsher world than the world we know. So it comes as no surprise that the most advanced and well adapted life forms would be found in the ocean. Although octopuses do not build large structured civilizations, they are obviously another form of intelligent and highly adapted life forms. How to cite The Giant Pacific Octopus, Essay examples

Social Mobility Research Paper Essay Example
Social Mobility Research Paper Essay The comparison within one family usually implies the vertical mobility, though the horizontal is indeed not excluded. The differences might sometimes be striking. Modern ââ¬Å"globalizationâ⬠society develops at a much higher speed and provides much more opportunities and options to individuals. These changes make the changes of stratification variables impressively outstanding. At the same time, in the last several decades the society has faced numerous breakdowns and evolutionary changes that now define the possibility of an individual to cross the strata and move vertically to other social position to another. There are multiple opportunities, but there are also numerous obstacles to them. The analysis of changes of an individualââ¬â¢s life in various stratification variables (education, religion, and income, and occupation, area of residence, consumption patterns, and political participation) compared to his or her relatives, friends or other social groups, enables to determine the level of this individualââ¬â¢s social mobility, which can be horizontal and vertical (the latter is either upward or downward). They were comparatively well-off and fitted into the given circumstances. When my parents were born, they received an accepted elementary and secondary education, and then in technical and literal fields. When the time arrived, they had to choose what career to pursue. My father was an engineer, and he found a job in a construction company. My mother began her career as an assistant to a sales company. She then had an opportunity to become a sales manager but, in the end, decided to become a housewife and a good mother. By that time I was born. By the present time, I can not claim my social mobility regarding education was astonishing. The only vertical movement in this stratification variable is the level of education I am planning to achieve. After graduating from the university and obtaining a degree of Bachelor Administration in Business Management, I would like to continue my education and receive an MBA degree. My future occupation is the aviation engine mechanic, but that is not the end of the planned career. I intend to climb the career ladder and pursue the opportunities in the field of aviation management. The education stratification variable has experienced substantial changes in the recent decades. Nowadays more and more opportunities are available to those, who have a desire and a talent to grow professionally. Companies are willing to pay for the talented employees and to bring up managers of the higher level. The levels of income have also become higher in comparison to my parents and grandparents. Now, an excellent part-time job will generate more than my relatives used to earn per day. The problem is that the prices and expenditure/consumption levels have also increased substantially. Thus, in this case, vertical mobility is doubtful. As for the consumption patterns, they, too have changed. Now we spend even more on food and entertainment, but a more significant part of income spent on the latest technological achievements. One cannot help the consumerism trends in the American society. All marketing methods used by numerous companies are targeting our pockets. The same statement holds true for my grandparents, who mostly spent money on global ââ¬Å"lifetimeâ⬠purchases like the house, automobile, refrigerator, etc. In this stratification variable, next generations are upwardly mobile, because they have more opportunities to choose from and new technologies to implement and make like easier. Sometimes I think that the change in attitudes towards new technologies and products offered by vast modern market had greatly influenced my attitudes towards my grandparents. When I was younger, I believed they were too old-fashioned because they had no idea of new things that appeared in the world. Now, the speed of innovations is high enough to make almost everyone seem ââ¬Å"old-fashioned.â⬠My political participation, as well as the area of residence, differs neither from that of my parents nor my grandparents). One can not say we are politically ambivalent, but political activity is not what my family would go into, taking into consideration given circumstances. They would preferably manager their local ââ¬Å"country,â⬠which is their family and take care of themselves and the relatives. I certainly can not deny I may one day change my attitude and take part in political processes, but that would be possible only in case of further vertical social mobility. I will have to have a good education, a decent career, high level of income and many other conditions to follow to become politically mobile. By now, I am more interested in obtaining higher education and finding a good challenging and rewarding job. I believe that the changes in attitudes I had experienced were caused by my participation in various social groups and the individuals I had met along the way ââ¬â my friends, other students, colleagues, etc. Of course, the changes in society are also worth mentioning. Humans are now greatly influenced by media, and other sources of information, political, economic and social upheavals, etc. The latter three were, undoubtedly, affecting all the previous generations, but globalization had made new changes much more noticeable and influential. It is difficult to determine the level of mobility (both upward and downward) because things seem more different than they are in reality. What appears to be a significant step ahead is sometimes only a half-step forward. I believe every generation makes a step ahead, but only time will show how far we have reached. My parents think their children should be better than they are, but I still have a lot to do for that wish to come true.
